Email and Mobile Groups
Email Groups
Email Groups in vuSmartMaps provide a simple and efficient way to manage recipient lists for sending notifications, alerts, and reports. Instead of manually entering individual email addresses in multiple places, you can create an Email Group once and reuse it across the platform. This helps centralize communication and reduces the effort required to manage recipients.
Email Groups are especially useful when:
- Multiple users need to receive the same alerts or reports
- Teams change frequently and recipient lists need to be updated
- You want to avoid repeating email addresses in multiple configurations
For example, if several alert rules need to notify the support team, configuring each alert with individual email IDs can be time-consuming. By using an Email Group, you can assign the group to all alerts and update recipients in one place whenever needed.
Mobile Groups
Mobile Groups in vuSmartMaps provide a centralized way to manage recipient lists for sending alerts and notifications via SMS. Instead of manually entering mobile numbers in multiple places, you can create a Mobile Group once and reuse it across the platform. This helps simplify communication and ensures that important alerts reach the right users quickly.
Mobile Groups are especially useful when:
- Critical alerts need to be sent to on-call engineers
- Specific teams or departments must receive SMS notifications
- Recipient lists change frequently
- You want to avoid managing individual contact numbers across multiple configurations
For example, if high-priority alerts need to be sent to the on-call team, configuring each alert with individual phone numbers can be difficult to maintain. By creating a Mobile Group, you can assign the group to alerts and update recipients in one place whenever needed.

What Happens After the Steps
After configuring credentials in vuSmartMaps, the credentials are stored under Platform Settings > Definitions > Credentials and can be used while configuring supported data sources and cloud-based O11ySources. After creating Email Groups and Mobile Groups, the groups become available under their respective sections in Definitions. When an Email Group or Mobile Group is selected in an alert or report configuration:
- All members added to that group receive the communication.
- There is no need to manually enter individual email addresses or mobile numbers repeatedly.
If members are added or removed from a group, the updated group information is used wherever the group is configured. This helps centralize credential and communication group management within the platform.
Tips / Best Practices
- Use clear and meaningful group names such as NOC-Team, L2-Support, or Payment-Ops, so the correct group can be easily identified during configuration.
- Keep group members updated regularly to ensure the email list reflects the current team structure.
- Avoid creating duplicate or similar groups, as this can lead to confusion and incorrect usage.
- Use Email Groups instead of individual email IDs to improve maintainability and reduce repeated updates across multiple configurations.
- Create groups based on roles or responsibilities, such as on-call teams, incident response teams, or reporting stakeholders.
